Spring property checklist for Wyoming homeowners
Everything you should tackle on your property between snowmelt and Memorial Day — from cleanup to irrigation start-up.
Wyoming springs are short. Once the ground thaws, there's a narrow window to reset your property before summer sets in. Here's our crew's actual checklist.
Week 1 — the big cleanup
- Rake out beds and lawn of winter debris, salt residue, and matted thatch.
- Check trees and shrubs for winter damage; remove broken limbs.
- Inspect hardscape for frost-heave and cracks.
Week 2 — soil and turf
- Dethatch if your lawn feels spongy.
- Apply pre-emergent before soil temps hit 55°F.
- Aerate if traffic-compacted.
Week 3 — irrigation
- Pressurize slowly — no shock starts.
- Run each zone and walk it. Look for geysers, mist (broken nozzle), or weak heads.
- Test your smart controller schedule.
Week 4 — color and polish
- Fresh mulch, not more mulch. Remove the old crust before layering.
- Plant annuals after last frost (late May for Buffalo).
- Sharpen your mower blade before the first cut.
